Berkefeld technology in action in Haiti

THW helps earthquake victims with four mobile water treatment plants

Celle/Germany, 25 February 2010 - Since the earthquake on Haiti, the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) has been in action on the badly damaged Caribbean island. With the help of four Berkefeld water treatment plants it has so far produced more than six million litres of drinking water for the sufferers of the natural disaster. The THW's agency's rapid reaction team for dealing with water supply abroad (SEEWA) at their two operational areas, Port-au-Prince and Léogâne, are relying on four highly mobile Type TWA 6 water treatment plants. With the merger of ELGA Berkefeld GmbH and Krüger WABAG GmbH, the organisational integration which has already been carried out has now been legally finalised. Under the name VWS Deutschland GmbH one of the leading suppliers of water treatment systems in Germany has formed. The brands Berkefeld, Krüger WABAG and ELGA will still be used in the respective markets. Reverse osmosis in'Hygienic Design' / BIOBED® for anaerobic pre-treatment of wastewater

Munich, 16 September 2009 - The engineers at Berkefeld see the central issues of water treatment in the beverages industry as on the one hand the further increase of water yield and energy efficiency, as well as the growing demands on the'Hygienic Design' of the plants. A further trend is the recycling of cleaning and wastewater. Accordingly, at the drinktec trade show in Munich the company is presenting a further developed reverse osmosis plant in a hygienically optimised design, as well as the model of an anaerobic Biobed® process - developed by Biothane - for the pre-treatment of organically polluted wastewater and the generation of biogas.
